With Canada as one of its borders, the town of Mars Hill sits at the foot of Mars Hill Mountain. Travelers can find it easily in the distance not only for the mountain, but for the wind turbines (the first in New England) that are prominent on the Aroostook County skyline.
A place of small-city charm and beauty such as this should be on everyone’s “must visit” list. A section of the Appalachian Trail passes through here on its way to Newfoundland, and for six months of the year, the top of Mars Hill Mountain is the first to greet the sun in the United States. Little known facts about Mars Hill will be interesting to many who love to learn about locations along the Pine Tree Trail!

ATVing

The local ATV club in this town is Big13 ATV Club. This club’s trails are located in Mars Hill, Westfield, Bridgewater, Robinson, E. Plantation, and Blaine. For some great fresh air, outdoor fun it’s hard to beat riding ATVs!
Hiking/ Biking

As mentioned before, a two-mile section of the Appalachian Trail passes through Mars Hill.
The Southern Bangor and Aroostook Trail passes right through downtown here on its way to Presque Isle from Houlton. Being mostly level, it is a great trail to do some hiking and biking.

Snowmobiling

Yes, Aroostook County is one of the state’s best choices for wintertime riding fun! The Central Aroostook Snowmobile Club calls Mars Hill home. With beautifully groomed trails, these Maine clubs maintain trail systems that lure folks from all over New England!

For those who love to ski, check out Big Rock Mountain here in Mars Hill! It's just the ticket to outdoor winter fun! The Rock is a unique and successful nonprofit, these folks know how to keep excitement alive!
The Southern Aroostook and Bangor Trail is not just a place to enjoy fantastic hiking, it is also an amazing route to cross-country ski on in the winter months! Stretching from Houlton to Presque Isle, this mostly flat run passes right through the downtown area of Mars Hill.
Food

There is no reason for anyone to go hungry in Mars Hill! Offerings include barbeque, country diners, fresh seafoods and even a delicious bakery!

Lodging/Camping

If you want to stay in Mars Hill proper, there are luxury cabins available as well as one local inn. There are other accommodations in nearby Presque Isle as well.
