* The Kittery to Portland section of Route 1 is listed on the Rand McNally & State Farm Road Atlases, & various Maine road maps as PINE TREE TRAIL from 1938-1940's. (EXAMPLE SHOWN ON State Farm RED,WHITE & BLUE MAP SECTION & Gulf Map w/turnpike), adding 60+ miles to the 500 mile section of Trail from Portland to Fort Kent. Kittery is also mentioned as the southern starting point on the trail in newspapers from that era. It is unknown how this happened; can you solve the "Kittery Mystery?"
